Sorry for taking ages to reply. I got the logo from the BBC Dr Who site. It is a "Screen" layer on top of the Matt Smith picture layer, hence the translucency. So the blackness has been faded, but not removed. Hope that made sense...it didn't to me, and I wrote it.
One tip though, the 1996 logo changed the C in Doctor to give it angled ends, to fit better with the angled edge on the T. The early 70's version has 90 degree angled ends to the C (and the tops don't line up perfectly), you're using the 1996 typeface here... [link]
McCoy's logo was pretty awful and as for the new one - well, they could have done in yellow crayon and I still think it would have been better than the 2005 logo. I just wish they wouldn't keep using the lens flare!
